Wanting to slowly and responsibly grow its agency, Maitri hired Jono Marcus Consulting, Inc in 2007 to develop its grants program. In 2007, Maitri had a budget of roughly $350,000. It relied heavily on its biennial fundraiser, which provided two-thirds of its funding, to keep its programs afloat. It raised the rest of its funding from one government funder and 6 foundation and corporate funders.
Upon hiring Jono Marcus Consulting, Inc, Maitri initiated a course to greatly enhance its level of prospecting, cultivation, and grant proposal writing and submission. In five years (fiscal year 2012-2013), Jono Marcus Consulting helped Maitri double its budget. Jono Marcus helped Maitri increase the number of funders dramatically. In addition to maintaining federal funding, Maitri at this point was receiving funds from six local, municipal, and county funders, and more than tripled the number of foundation and corporate funders that Maitri now had the benefit of working with. By 2016, Maitri had a budget of more than $1M, almost triple that of when Jono Marcus Consulting started with the agency.
Throughout the relationship between Jono Marcus Consulting and Maitri – the agency has contracted with Jono Marcus consistently since 2007 – Maitri benefitted from responsive, timely grant management, including grants research, relationship cultivation, budget development, proposal strategy, and government program and financial reporting. To help manage its budget, restricted funds, unrestricted funds, allocations and the like, Jono Marcus Consulting implemented a dynamic budget tool that helped Maitri’s leadership understand allocations.
